Albert Lester Dodd, age 87, of 437 Ridgecrest Drive, Danville, died on Monday, May 18, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family.  Born in Danville on November 11, 1927, he was the son of the late Claude Cleveland Dodd and Kate Evans Dodd.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Peavy Dodd.  He was a member of Melville Baptist Church and had served his country well in the US Army.  He had been a driver for the Lance  company for over 32 years.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Dodd is survived by his sons, Wayne Dodd and Jerry Dodd, and his sisters, Doris Barker and Agnes Vaughn, and his brother, Melvin Dodd.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Randy Dean Dodd.

Funeral services for Mr. Dodd will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Jenkins and the Rev. Charles Swanson officiating.  Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park with military rites given by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097.  The family will receive friends at Barker Chapel on Wednesday, May 20. 2015 from 6 – 8:00 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence.
