Mr. Archie “ PaPa Archie” Glenn Winstead, age 83, of 233 Stonegate Way, Danville, VA, passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Winstead was born on December 22, 1933, in Leasburg, North Carolina, to the late Harvey Winstead and Mary Watts Winstead.

Mr. Winstead worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for twenty years and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Winstead  is survived by his sons, Carl G. Winstead of Pelham, NC, and Mark T. Winstead (Kelly) of Danville, VA; brothers, Sam Winstead, Therit Winstead, and Jim Winstead; sisters, Frances Rudder, and Betty Bowes; grandchildren, John Dalton, Laura Tran, Mary Katherine Baugh, and Brently Winstead; great-grandchildren, Sydnee, Colin, Joel, Leah, Patrick, and Carter.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Winstead was predeceased by his wife, Nell Denny Winstead; brother, Paul Winstead; and sister, Laura Webster. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Legion Post 325 or American Legion Post 1097.  Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 1097, as well as Army Military Honor Guard from Roanoke.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Pastor Brad Childres, officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be private.
