Cora (Compton) Campbell

Mrs. Cora Compton Campbell, age 82, of 1420 East Witt Road, Blairs, VA, died on March 18, 2018 at SOVAH Health in Danville.

Mrs. Campbell was born on December 31, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, VA, a daughter of the late Marshall Compton and Sara Dunaway Compton. She lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County and worked for many years at Dan River Mills and later at Columbia Wood Products. Mrs. Campbell was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved animals especially her cats and dogs. She enjoyed gardening, working puzzles, cooking and her computer. Mrs. Campbell was married to William Ray Campbell, Sr. who predeceased her. She was of the Christian faith.

Mrs. Campbell is survived by her son, William Ray Campbell Jr. and wife Laurie of Asheville, NC; granddaughter, Kelly Campbell; siblings: Riley Compton, Jack Compton (Jean), James Compton (Karen), David Compton (Donna), Simon Compton (Susan), Jean Hicks, Delma Miller (Ralph), Pencie Young (Bob), Pauline Reed (Jerold); sister-in-law, Bonnie Little, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Campbell was predeceased by her beloved husband William Campbell, Sr.; brother, John Compton; sister-in-law, Jeanne Compton; and brother-in-law, Joe Hicks.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Swicegood Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Scearce officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Schoolfield Cemetery. At other times, the family will be at the residence of Mrs. Campbell’s sister, Pencie Young, 1480 East Witt Rd. Blairs, VA.
