Delano Aikens, age 73, of 216 Quarry St., Danville, VA, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

He was born on May 24, 1942, in Eden, NC, to the late James Harden Dillard and Hazel Hairston.

Mr. Aikens worked as a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Logan Aikens; daughters, Phyllis Lipscomb, Victoria Thomas, Cynthia Morrison,  Lisa Lipscomb, Tonya Petty, and Yolanda Eaton; sons, Delano Hairston, Al Hairston, and Deon Hairston; brothers, Alvis Dillard, Robert Dillard, Jimmie Scales, and Jason Scales; sisters, Delois Watlington, Edna Clark, Regina Dillard, Fannie Mae Little, Janice Rollins, Olivia Mitchell, Jacqueline Logan, Elizabeth Hampton, and Ann L. Adams; twenty-seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; special daughters, Kawana L. Miles and Torika L. Miles; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Mr. Aikens was predeceased by his brother, Sylvester Dillard; and sister, Brenda Dillard.

Memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home with Elder Tyrell Payne officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at 300 Halifax St. Danville,VA .

The family request memorial contributions be made to Barker Funeral Home to help with Mr. Aikens funeral expenses.
