Doris C. Batton, of 339 Raintree Road, died April 27, 2013 peacefully at her home after a five month decline in health. Doris was the daughter of the late Algie C. Crews and Eleanor Crews McCormic. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of sixty years, Julian, in 2010, and her brother, John “Tommy” Crews, in 2011.
Mrs. Batton was a graduate of GWHS where she was active in many sports and enjoyed the good times of youth with many friends innocently known at the time as “The Green Street Park Gang”. Doris was employed at DRMC in the admitting office in the 1970’s until stricken with RA. Though limited in activity, she enjoyed her home watching sports, classic movies, and extreme love of music. She was a lifetime member of Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Batton is survived by one daughter, Bonnie and husband, Steve Hundley, of Chatham; granddaughter, Dana and husband, Brenten Shaw; great-grandchildren, Lance and Logan Shaw, all of Sutherlin; grandson, Jason Hundley of Reidsville, and great-grandchildren, Zoe and Zander Hundley and their mother, Melanie Hundley of Eden; Sisters-In-Law, Joan “Billie” Crews of Danville and Jeanne Batton Vernon and husband, John, of South Boston, as well as nieces and nephews. Doris also leaves her companion and best friend, Tiffany, her sheltie canine.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Danville Humane Society or the Danville Life Saving Crew.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the residence, 339 Raintree Road, Danville.
