Doris Franklin, age 86, of 1574 Walters Mill Rd., Providence, NC, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC, after being called home by her Lord and Savior.

 Born on May 23, 1930, in the Schoolfield area of Danville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Albert Strader and Mae Shively.

Mrs. Franklin was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Gatewood Baptist Church.

 She is survived by one son, Tim Franklin of Danville, VA, two daughters, Gayle Hemphill of the residence and Tammy Dunkley of Blairs, VA. Four granddaughters , Kristy Miller of London, Ky, Angela Ellis of Providence NC, Tabitha Russell of Eden, NC and Ashley Hood of Blairs, VA. Two grandsons, Daryl Cox of Atlanta, GA, and Barry (BJ) Hood of Blairs, VA. Four great grandchildren, Samatha Ellis of Providence, NC, Jasmine Schnablegger of Eden, NC, Nyzeria Russell of Eden, NC and Samorie Russell of Eden, NC. One great- great- grandchild, Isaiah McCargo of Providence, NC. In addition to her relatives, she leaves behind a host of friends, including her best friend and one of her caregivers, Vickie West.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Franklin and son, Woody Franklin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Saturday Feb. 25, 2017 at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. John Gentry and Rev. Adrian Moore officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence , 1574 Walters Mill Rd, Providence, NC, Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park Danville, VA.
