Ira Thomas Hodges, age 89, of 4361 Birch Creek Rd., Ringgold, VA, died on Monday, February 23, 2015 at Danville Regional Medical Center.

He was born on May 08, 1925, in Halifax County, VA, to the late James Willis Hodges and Velnay Smith Hodges.

Mr. Hodges worked at Dan River Mills as an inspector and loom fixer for 40 years before his retirement and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and raising cattle. Mr. Hodges was a veteran of the United States Navy where he drove a A PT boat during WWII.

He is survived by a special niece, Penny Moore and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Mr. Hodges was predeceased by his wife, Frances Hodges; seven brothers and three sisters. Mr. Hodges was the last surviving member of his family.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Swicegood Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Reed officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
