James Emerson Turner

January 19, 1936 ~ February 23, 2015 (age 79) 79 Years Old


James Emerson Turner, formally a three year resident of Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, died on Monday, February 23, 2015 at Vibra Hospital in Richmond, VA.

He was born on January 19, 1936, in Danville, VA, to the late Frank Turner and Emma Jane Scearce Turner.

James grew up on a farm in the Mt. Cross area with his mom and dad, six brothers, and four sisters. He loved gardening, chickens, and ducks. He loved music, which included him playing the guitar and piano, but what he loved the most was his family and his very special friend Jodie Agner. James was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his sisters: Jean Toler and Charlotte Terry both of Danville, VA and Peggy Thacker of Eden, NC; brothers: David Turner of Danville, VA and William Turner of Brosville, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Mr. Turner was predeceased by his sister, Betty Jane Turner Keatts and brothers, Franklin Turner, John Henry Turner, Jackie Lee Turner, and Oscar Turner.

A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Jean Toler, 132 Benefield St., Apt. 1B, Danville, VA.
