Mary Jewel Dixon Haraway, age 94, of 135 Rebun Ct., Lot#21, Danville, VA, passed away on Friday, January 06, 2017 at her residence.

She was born on May 05, 1922, in Whitt, VA, to the late Sydney Lee Dixon and Lillie Mae Crane Dixon.

Mrs. Haraway worked as a caregiver and was of the Christian faith.

She is survived by her children: Kenneth Wayne Haraway, Roger Arnold Haraway, Allen Dale Haraway, Diane Haraway Meadows, and Denise Haraway Bridgen and her husband Barry; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Haraway was predeceased by her husband, Mason Otis Haraway; daughter-in-law, Essie Smith Haraway; siblings, Garland Dixon, Kermit Dixon, Janie Maloney, Erma Ingram, Beulah Dixon, and Pearl Dixon.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Swicegood Funeral Home with Pastors Adam Cook and Dustin Dickens officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence of her daughter, Denise Bridgen, 1720 Buckhorn Dr., Danville, VA. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery.
