Mattie Nelson Holt, age 104, of 41 Ashlawn Dr. Danville, VA, died on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Holt was born on September 14, 1912, in Danville, VA, a daughter of the late Walter Nelson and Clara Francis Nelson. In 1934, she married Claiborne Holt who preceded her in death. She was self-employed as a hairdresser for over fifty years. Mrs. Holt loved to garden and can vegetables. She loved her family and her dog Snuggles. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall.

Mrs. Holt is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Neely (Richard); a grandson, Stephen Neely (Stephanie); two granddaughters, Susan Becker (Larry) and Stacey Antoine (Steve); eight great-grandchildren, Megan Neely, Michael Neely, Mattie Neely, Rachel Becker, Natalie Becker, Sarah Becker, Neely  Antoine and Lexi Antoine; and her special caregivers, Shirley Hayes and Joyce Irby.

A Graveside Service will be conducted on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM in Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Ty Covington officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Swicegood Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Danville Humane Society, PO Box 3352, Danville, VA, 24543.
