Our Lord’s arms were extended welcoming Mattie Dodson Wilson, age 97, who passed away on February 5, 2016.

She had been a resident of Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center since October 3, 2014. Mattie was born in Sutherlin, Va. on September 19, 1918 to her parents, the late Benjamin Franklin Dodson and the late Ida Chaney Dodson.

She was married to Noell Eugene “Bud” Wilson, who predeceased her in 1973. She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul H. Dodson, and Sterling Dodson; and sisters, Julia D. Collie, and Pricie I. Dodson.

Surviving are her daughter, Cynthia W. Guill; and grandson, Paul E. Guill; her sister-in-law, Marie W. Brumfield, and former son-in-law, Tony Guill. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, and a very special friend, Etta Jennings.

Mattie was a very faithful member of Afton Road Primitive Baptist church until failing health prevented her attending. She dearly loved her church and her church family. She retired from Virginia Bank & Trust Company of Danville. Mattie will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but her family and friends are assured that she is with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by his loving arms. Barker Funeral Home is assisting the family in accordance with Mattie’s final wishes. There will be no visitation, only graveside rites at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 7 2016 in Highland Burial Park with Elder Danny Parker officiating.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for the care and kindness by the East Wing staff at RERHC, especially to Sarah, Robin and Patty, and a special Thank You to Andrea. In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest memorials be sent to Afton Road Primitive Baptist Church, C/O Elder Danny Parker, 295 Sweden Falls Lane, Blairs, VA 24527.
