Mr. Melvin Clifford Nester, age 88, of 669 Holland Rd., Danville, VA, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Riverside Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on November 17, 1927, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Wilbert Nester and Guida Nester Nester.

Mr. Nester worked as a long distance truck driver before his retirement, and he was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He is survived by his children, Allen Clifford Nester (Donna) of Danville, VA; Roger Lee Nester (Joanne) of Danville, VA; Judy Nester Tucker (Linwood) of Richmond, VA; and Nancy Nester Hamlett (Terry) of Danville, VA; sisters, Geneva Nester Woods of Southern Pines, NC and Gloria Jean Jennings (Sid) of Cary, NC; and six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a dear friend, Nancy Lea Spicer.

The Family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Riverside Health Care and Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion for Mr. Nester during his stay with them.

In addition to his parents Mr. Nester was predeceased by his wife Helen Garrett Nester and brother, Randolph Nester.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2016 at Swicegood Funeral Home with Dr. Doug Barber officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Schoolfield Cemetery.
