Robert Wayne Smithey

Robert Wayne Smithey, age 63, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 21, 2018 in Raleigh, N.C.

Mr. Smithey was born on June 28, 1954, in Danville, VA, to the late Robert Lee Smithey and Rita Phelps Smithey who survives. For most of his life he was self-employed working in a variety of jobs; he was employed for a while at Quality Construction and later was self-employed as a jeweler. Mr. Smithey was a veteran of the US Army Airborne. He was of the Baptist faith and had an unconditional love for his mother.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Anthony Sean Smithey, Ryan Wayne Smithey (Crystal), and Angela Dawn Smithey; brother, Tony Smithey (Diane); beloved former wife, Alice Meeks; and eleven grandchildren.

 In addition to his father, Mr. Robert Smithey was predeceased by his sister, Deborah Smithey Cundiff.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Swicegood Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Scearce officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Phelps Family Cemetery, Honey Road, Danville, VA.
