Mrs. Ruth Shope Underwood, age 76, of 2526 North Main St., Danville, VA, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at SOVAH Health, Danville, VA.

She was born on December 22, 1940, in Robinsville, NC, to the late Edward Shope and Maudie Pendrgrass.

Mrs. Underwood was a homemaker and of the Christian faith. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Underwood is survived by her children, William W. Underwood and his wife, Michelle, of Danville, VA and Donna Lewis and her husband, David, of Maryville, TN.; grandchildren, Olivia Underwood, Scott Baughan, Brian Baughan, Mitchell Lewis, and Nicholas Lewis; great-grandchild, Brian Baughan, Jr.; and sister, Betty Shope Palmer, of Richmond, VA.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Underwood was predeceased by her husband, William H. Underwood.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Danville Memorial Gardens with (clergy) officiating.
