Ms. Sandra Jeanne Harris, age 60, of 160 Howeland Circle, Danville, VA, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, following a brief illness.
She was born on May 13, 1957, in Roanoke, VA, to the late George “Shorty” Lloyd and Ruth Matthews Harris who survives.
Sandy worked as a Registered Nurse at Danville Regional Medical Center for thirty-seven years and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a 1978 graduate of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was very involved with her YMCA family and enjoyed participating in water aerobics and Silver Sneakers as often as she was able.
Sandy will be remembered for her love of gardening and her pets. Her love of her profession was evident in her care as a nurse and, she will be remembered as devoted, loving mother and Mimi.
Sandy is survived by her beloved daughter, Rebecca Harris Layne and husband Jimmy of Hurt, VA; granddaughter, Madeline Mason Layne of Hurt, VA; brothers, Danny Lloyd of Oriental, NC and Steve Lloyd of Fair Hope, AL; and mother, Ruth Matthews Harris, of Danville, VA.
In addition to her father, Ms. Harris was predeceased by her adoptive father, Jerry Wayne Harris.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 5 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jonathan Goertz officiating. Visitations will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. At other times the family will be at the residence, 160 Howeland Circle, Danville, VA 24541, Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
