Mrs. Shirley Whitby Gregory, age 86, of 225 Kerr Lane, Danville, Va., passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Mrs. Gregory was born on August 11, 1930, in Petersburg, Va., to the late Walter Whitby and Mildred LaPrade.

Mrs. Gregory worked at Dan River Mills, as seamstress and was of the Methodist faith. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Mrs. Gregory never met a stranger.

Mrs. Gregory is survived by her children, Bruce Gregory and wife, Genevieve and Bryan Gregory and wife, Ellen, all of Danville, Va.; grandchildren, Zachary Gregory, Ann Eaton, Raymond Thomas Gregory, Brittany Shelton, Shawn Crane, Lisa Phelps, and Robin Stevens; great-grandchildren, Amber Phelps, Amy Phelps, Daniel Wingfield, Brandon Stevens, Blake Stevens, Christian Gregory, Jordan Guerrant, and Erin Eaton; great-great grandchildren, Abbiegail Bradford and Arabella Bradford; and sister, Sylvia Vass.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Gregory was preceded in death by her husband, Elton Paige Gregory; sister, Ann Bourne; and brother, Sonny Whitby.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Gregory’s caregivers, Brittany Mullis, Rebecca Emerson, and Mildred Moore.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at 2 p.m. at County Line Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Barker Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at 225 Kerr Lane, Danville, Va.
