Mr. William James Gentry, Sr., age 96, of Danville, VA, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at his residence. He was the last survivor of his family.

He was born on February, 19, 1921, in Ashe County, NC, to the late Frank Austin Gentry and Alice Vickers Gentry.

Before his retirement, Mr. Gentry worked at Dan River Inc. and was a member of Emmanuel Church of the Brethren. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force Transport Command, and he served in the military police during WWII.

He is survived by his; sons, William James Gentry, Jr. and Bruce Gentry; six grandchildren and three great-granchildren.

In addition to his parents Mr. Gentry was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Reece Gentry and six siblings.

Funeral services and entombment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Danville Memorial Gardens with Rev. Curtis English officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregivers, Diane Ragans, Connie Venable, and Mountain Valley Hospice Services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and or Veterans Memorial.
