Pamela Marie Oakley Atkins, born October 25, 1954, passed away March 24, 2024 surrounded by her family and friends.
She graduated from George Washington High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Larry N. Atkins in 1972. They later welcomed a son, Larry N. Atkins Jr.
Her husband served in the U.S. Army and the family was stationed in Germany, Japan, St. Louis, Fayetteville, and Texas. While traveling abroad, Pam enjoyed shopping in mainland China. During her husband’s military career, Pam worked numerous civil servant positions. While stationed in Japan, one of her jobs included teaching English.
After the couple retired to Dry Fork, VA, she served as a proctor for the ASVAB testing and later was employed at Pittsylvania County Social Services.
She was predeceased by her son, Larry N. Atkins Jr.; parents, Walter and Doris Oakley; and sister, Patricia Oakley Rose.
Her loving baby sister, Priscilla, was Pam’s primary caregiver throughout her illness. Her niece Anna was a part of her daily care and offered support through it all.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sister, Priscilla Sims (Mark), niece Anna Perkins (Brian), and Savannah. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Rachel Smith (Paul), and many other nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.
The Family would like to thank Pam’s best friends for the countless hours of loving Pam and being there for her cancer treatment journey. Thanks for assisting Priscilla care for Pam! Louise, Ricky, Tuffy, David, Cheryl and Kim; you all are the definition of true friendship!
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 1:00pm at Swicegood Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the residence. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
