Alvin Turman, age 84, of 159 Kimberly Drive, Danville, VA, passed away on Wednesday September, 5, 2018, at SOVAH-Danville.
Mr. Turman was born on August 20, 1934, in Dougspur, VA, a son of the late Joseph Turman and Pearlie Duncan Turman.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Redmen and Faith Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Turman’s was an avid dirt track racecar driver, during the 60s and 70s.
Before his retirement, Mr. Turman worked as a delivery driver for Car Quest Auto Parts Store, located on Mt. Cross Road. Also, he worked at JC Penny Auto Center, when they were located in the Ballou Park Shopping Center.
Mr. Turman is survived by his son, Alton Turman; grandson, Hunter Turman; siblings, Zefra Webb, Fern Nolan, and James Turman; aunts, Edna Lacks and Muriel Fritz.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Turman was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Jones Turman; his grandson’s mother, Teresa Meeks Turman; and sister, Rebecca Cox “Tima”.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 08, 2018 at Swicegood Funeral Home with Rev. Daniel Lackey officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 07, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
