Bennie Crawford, age 79, of 135 Fairway Drive, Danville, Virginia, died on Monday, December 11, 2017, at Kindred Hospital.

Mr. Crawford was born on October 24, 1938, in Danville, VA, a son of the late Roy Crawford and Catherine Gauldin Crawford. He retired from the US Army in 1977 after serving during the Vietnam War from 1969 until 1970. He later owned and operated Crawford Heating and Air and was a member of the American Legion Post 1097. Mr. Crawford was married to Marion Beckwith Crawford for 58 years, who survives of the residence. He was of the Christian faith.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Steven Crawford (Sandy), Douglas Crawford (Carol), Patricia Doss (Owen), and Becky Crawford; grandchildren, Blade Crawford (Deanna), Garrett Crawford (Samantha), Benji Crawford (Melissa), Kayla Crawford, Jackson Robertson (Abby), Chris Poole (Amy), Cory Burke (Wesley), Joshua Fletcher, Whitney Doss, Jeffrey Doss, Nate Doss, Brandi Proctor, and Tanner Crawford; great grandchildren, Mia, Christian, Parker, Hailey, Elizabeth, Branson, Ethan, Hayden, Ernest, Wesley, Brinleigh, Kaleigh, Layna and baby Robertson; one brother, Wayne Crawford (Brenda); sister-in-law, Sherlie Crawford; and by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Bobby Crawford and a nephew, Mickey Crawford.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Reverend Rick Markham officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Danville Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the US Army and the American Legion Post 1097.
