Billy Eugene Standley, Sr.January 26, 1932 ~ September 30, 2017 (age 85)
Billy Eugene Standley, Sr., age 85, of 213 Wood Ave. Danville, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation.
Mr. Standley was born in Danville, VA, on January 26, 1932, a son of the late Thomas Wesley Standley and Nannie Martin Standley. He was born, raised and lived most of his life in Schoolfield where he was employed at Dan River Mills as a loom fixer. He proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War from May 1951 until May 1955. He served as the Gunners Mate 3rd Class on the USS Wisconsin Battleship. Mr. Standley was an avid baseball player and was a member of the American Legion Post 1097. He loved the Lord, his family and spending time working on his home. Mr. Standley was happily married for 49 years to Nancy Keen Standley who survives. He was a member of The Tabernacle.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Billy Standley, Jr. (Mary Jane), Thomas Standley (Lisa), Jerry Hamlett, and Michael Standley (Teresa); fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two nephews and one niece.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his infant daughter, two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with Reverend Danny Campbell and Reverend Joey Bray officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 PM before the service at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the residence. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post 1097.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Ln, Danville, VA 24541.
