Mrs. Dean Gentry Carter, age 93, of 2609 Westover Dr., Danville, VA, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at her residence.  Mrs. Carter was born on July 24, 1924 in Ashe County, NC to the late Bertie Hopkins Gentry and Lawrence E. Gentry. She worked for 42 years at Dan River Inc. until she retired. She was a member of Gatewood Baptist Church.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her brother, Rev. John Gentry (Mary Jo); Step-daughters, Elaine Wells (Melvin) and Peggy Oakes (Carlton); Grandchildren, Benny Oakes (Jessica), Marianne Oakes, Charity Talbott (Michael); Great-Grandchildren, Morgan, Cody, Carter and Lexy; niece, Kathy Crumpton; nephew Randy Gentry; Great-niece Morgan Gentry; Great-nephews, Chad Crumpton and Hunter Gentry.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Ray Carter.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11 am at Swicegood Funeral Home.Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow Emmanuel Pentecostal Church Cemetery, Dry Fork, VA.

 The family will be at the residence of her niece, 2609 Westover Dr., Danville, VA.
