Dorcas Ann Newman Martin
Dorcas went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 9, 2018. She was born on March 14, 1929, to Luther and Lovetta Newman.
She was a member of Stokesland United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and helped with the Girl Scouts. She also played softball for the church team.
In 1977 she completed studies, Summa Cum Laude, at Danville Community College to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.
She is survived by one son, Steven A. Martin (Sharon) and three daughters, Susan M. Dahl, Sharon “Tuffy” Shorter (David) of Danville and Sandra M. Collins (John) of Goldsboro, N.C.
She was predeceased by two daughters, Shirley M. Keller and Sylvia Arlene Martin; two grandchildren, Mikey Adkins and Elizabeth Martin former husband James J. “Jolly Jim” Martin.
In addition she is survived by four grandchildren, James Jefferson “Jeff” Keller, Keven C. Booker, Lindsay M. Cornelius and Shannon Skiscim; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She had been a resident of Roman Eagle Rehabilitation Center for the past month and the family would like to thank them for all of their care, support and love during her stay there.
The memorial service will be held on April 11, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Swicegood Chapel on West Main Street, with the Reverend Doug Barber officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Ms. Martin's body will be donated to science.
