Frederick Harrison Owen, Sr., age 80, of 229 Kenmore Drive, Danville, VA, died on Monday, August 20, 2018, at Riverside Healthcare.
Mr. Owen was born on May 8, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, VA, a son of the late Harry Washington Owen and Edna Jones Owen. He lived most of his life in Danville where he retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber. Mr. Owen coached youth baseball, was an avid NASCAR fan and bowler. He enjoyed going to Smith Mountain Lake and was good to anyone he came into contact with. He was of the Baptist faith and was the last member of his generation.
Mr. Owen is survived by his former wife and caregiver, Sylvia Strader Wilson; his sons, Rick Owen, Jr. (Priscilla) and Eugene Chandler; grandchildren, Drew Chandler and Cody Owen.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Tiffany Chandler; brother, Virgil Lee Owen; and sisters, Shirley Cook, Barbara Barber, and Peggy Owen.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 24, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with Reverend Billy Hedrick officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 6:30 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park.
