Howard Baxter Thomasson came into this world on 10 November 1943 and departed on 27 July 2018. He was born in South Carolina, spent most of his childhood in Hampton Roads, graduated from Warwick High School, and spent the past thirty years in Pittsylvania County. He was a proud veteran who served his country with honor as a Yeoman First Class in the United States Navy deployed on the USS Holder. After his retirement, he proudly served his church and community becoming well respected in the process. He enjoyed fishing with his grandson, Alexander, as well as his “fishing buddies.” Howard was known for his sense of humor and even in the end he was playing practical jokes.
Howard is survived by his wife of forty-nine years Patricia as well as his two sons, Brian and Christopher, his grandchildren, Alexander, Addison and Maxwell, as well as his best friend and brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Terri Prevatte, his “adopted son”, Scott McDowell, Alexander’s mother, Jennifer, and Chris’ wife, Jenn. He will be joining his mother, Eunice Turner, in Heaven.
Visitation will occur on 4 August 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church, 1325 Kentuck Road, Danville, VA 24540. A celebration of Howard’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. as well as a military service.
In lieu of flowers, Howard’s family would ask that donations be made to The V Foundation at https://www.jimmyv.org/. Howard bravely fought cancer and won by the way that he lived his life. He didn’t give up; he never gave up.
