Irene Mattingly Carlton met her Lord and Savior on February 14, 2019 at SOVAH Health-Danville.
She was born on Christmas Day 1927, in Hazard, Kentucky, to the late Joseph and Delphia Mattingly. Irene was a member of the Lakewood Community Church, Ringgold, VA. She loved God, her family and all her friends. She worked in the sewing room at Dan River Mills until her retirement. She loved to make baby blankets, sending birthday cards, selling Avon, as well as making her famous peanut butter balls and candy at Christmas.
Irene was predeceased by her husband Raymond Carlton and her daughters, Pamela Pierce and Sue Southard. She is survived by her two sons, Rick Elkins (wife Jean) and Fred Elkins (wife Nancy) and two daughters Glenna McNeal and Alisa Arduca: as well as her brother Don Mattingly (wife Ruth), and her sisters Linda Mattingly, Pauline Branham, Shirley Wright (husband Donald Lee) and Adoree Stanley. Irene also had several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and daughters Irene was predeceased by three brothers Joe Mattingly, Greg Mattingly, and Danny Mattingly as well as a sister Madeline Parsons.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 2 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with Pastor Jennifer Coffey officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. At other times the family will be at the residence of her daughter, Alisa Arduca, 605 Fairhaven Circle, Danville, VA 24540.
