Jean B. McGuire went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday April 24, 2017 after a brief illness.

She was born on December 14, 1934 in Halifax County, VA, a daughter of the late Charlie Baynes and the late Elizabeth Baynes. She lived most of her life in Danville, working in Dan River Mills and the Disston plant. She attended Third Avenue Congregational Christian
Church and was a member of the Ambassador Sunday School Class. On June 30, 1954, she married Raymond McGuire who predeceased her on November 18, 2008.

Jean is survived by a sister, Carolyn B. Waller and husband, Marvin of Danville, VA, two brothers, Neal Baynes of Danville, VA and Ray Baynes of Richmond, VA; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Edna Parker, Cecile Hardy and Lillie Moore; and one brother, Charlie Baynes.

Jean loved walking through her neighborhood with many beloved dogs, friends, family and even alone. She enjoyed picking up mail and putting trash out for neighbors and watering plants and flowers for neighborhood vacationers. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her wonderful caregivers, Angie Stephens, Hilda Welch, Judy Emerson, Toni Valderrama and Pat Dalton.

A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 28, 2017 in Highland Burial Park with the Reverend Freddie Vicks officiating. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home from 1:30 to 2:30 PM Friday, April 28, 2017. At other times, the family will be at 118 Bridgewater Ct. Danville, VA.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Danville Pittsylvania Cancer Society, 223 Riverview Dr Ste J, Danville, VA 24541, or to the Danville Lifesaving Crew, 202 Christopher Ln, Danville, VA 24541.
