John Wayne Pierce, age 67, of 500 Plum Street, Danville, Va., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C.

Born in Chatham, Va. on September 18, 1949, he was the son of the late Burton Howard Pierce and Willie Maude Payne Pierce. He was married to Thelma Yates Pierce who predeceased him in 2012. He had worked for Quality Construction Company before his retirement.

Survivors of Mr. Pierce include his son, Andrew Walker of Danville; daughters, Cawania Hodges (Paul)of W.Va., Mona Walker  (Tommy Owen) of Dry Fork, Va., Gloria Francis of La., Amy Pierce, and Karen “Ginnie” Engelhart, of Danville. Other survivors include a brother, Ronnie Pierce of Danville; three sisters, Virginia Moser of Danville, Edith Hopkins of Bassett, and Gail Myers of Whitmell;  seventeen grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two daughters, Judy Conner and Bonnie Redd; two sisters, Patsy Martin and Elizabeth Carter; and two brothers, Eddie Pierce and James Pierce; and one grandchild.

Funeral Services for Mr. Pierce will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with the Dr. Jerry Foley officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
