John Crittenton Stone, Sr.

John Crittenton Stone, Sr., age 88, of Providence, NC, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Stone was born on September 17, 1931, in Brosville, VA, a son of the late Rev. Sanders Solomon Stone and Lonnie Bell Jones Stone. He lived most of his life in the Danville area where he was employed with Roy Ford Construction for 38 years. He was married to Sallie Catherine Mullins Stone who preceded him in death and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Mr. Stone and his wife Sallie were well known for their generosity, they would have given a stranger the shirt off their backs.

Mr. Stone is survived by his sons, J.C. Stone, Jr., Douglas Eugene Stone (Cynthia); daughters, Mary Mayberry (Jerry), Shelia Wilkerson, Margaret Hammock and Maggie Kennedy (Phillip); many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Woody Ernest Mullins, Sr.; daughter, Ruby Myers; granddaughter, Jessica Riggins; two great grandsons, Blake Mullins and Zackery Walton, brothers, Marvin “Joe” Stone and Eppie Stone; sisters, Nancy Wright and Shelby Jean Palos; sons-in-law, Pee Wee Wilkerson and Roy Hammock.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with Reverend H. C. Price and Reverend Gilmore Hundley officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at Douglas and Cynthia Stone’s residence, 250 Randolph St. Danville, VA. Interment will follow in Schoolfield Cemetery.
