Welcome to the memorial page for

Joyce (Adams) Reynolds

December 5, 1928 ~ September 24, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and Joyce is now with the Lord, as her physical suffering and loneliness without her “Whitey” have come to a close.   She answered a call from her Lord & Savior on the 24th of September and made her ascension into the realms of glory. She departed her earthly life from Alamance Regional Medical Center after a decline in health of the last several months.  She has been healed of all pain, heartache, forgetfulness, sickness, loneliness and suffering that formerly ravaged her body, and is now whole, rejoicing with her heavenly father and the angels.

She was born on December 5, 1928 in Danville, VA to the late John and Nettie Adams, the third of four children born of this union.  She lived most of her life in Danville, VA until April 2017 when she and her husband relocated to Brookdale Assisted Living in Burlington, NC, to be closer to their daughter, and then just 4 weeks ago to The Cottage at Blakey Hall in Elon, NC.

She retired from Dan River Mills after 44 years of service in the Inspection Room, followed by a second job that she enjoyed immensely until the age of 80 as a “demo girl” doing product demonstrations in grocery stores.  She never met a stranger, and this job offered her the opportunity to be the friendly soul she was to everyone she encountered.  Joyce was also a faithful member of Timberlake Baptist Church for many years until her health started to fail and she could no longer attend formal worship services.

Joyce will always be remembered for her nurturing and humble spirit, her precious smile, her fabulous cooking, her cozy home of which she took immense pride, and her immeasurable love for her family and all who were blessed to have been her friend.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by the love of her life of nearly 67 years - her husband Harold B. “Whitey” Reynolds, who made his ascension into Heaven just 3 months ago on June 19th; her loving son, Mark Anthony Reynolds; her sister and best friend, Norma Davis; and her brother, Irving Adams.

Joyce was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, but most importantly, a child of God.  She is survived by her daughter, Carol Reynolds Wynn (Mike) of Cedar Grove, NC; grandchildren, Ryan Woods of Mebane, NC, Emilee Woods of Durham, NC, and Ashley Reynolds Barta of Hutchinson, KS; great-grandson Lucas Barta of Hutchinson, KS; and sister Carolyn Page (David) of Greensboro, NC.

The family would like to thank the compassionate staff of The Cottage at Blakey Hall and Alamance Regional Medical Center, for they so lovingly cared for her and her family.  We are especially grateful to Margaret at Blakey Hall, as her kindness and exemplary love shall forever be cherished.

A graveside service will be held at Highland Burial Park (North Main side) on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Ken Tilley officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude, Disabled American Veterans, or an animal rescue group of your choice.   Swicegood is assisting the family.
