Mrs. Lois Cox Gentry, age 93, of Pelham, N.C., passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019, at her residence.
Mrs. Gentry was born on November 26, 1925, in Rockingham County, N.C., to the late Robert H. Cox and Dora Carroll Cox. She married Earl Lloyd Gentry in January, 1947, who preceded her in death.
She worked as a L.P.N. at Danville Memorial Hospital for 25 years and Southern Processing until retirement. She was a member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Happy Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Gentry is survived by two daughters, Anita Gibson (Tim) of Reidsville, and Earlene Gentry (Atef M. Khalifa); two sons, Michael Gentry (Betty) and Robert Gentry (Robin); grandchildren, Pam Wood, Mohamed Khalifa (Injie), Dalia Khalifa, Ronda Khalifa (Ahmed Ibrahim), Ben Gentry (Doris), Jon Gentry (Lydia), Abby Nelson (Clay), Beth S. Shoemaker (Dwayne), Beverly Stephens Harrison (Gwan), Candy Gibson, and Tim Gibson; great-grandchildren, William Vernon, Harrison Vernon, Christopher Shoemaker, Stephen Shoemaker, Jaelyn Harrison, Jordan Harrison, Kiran Khalifa, Lara Khalifa, Alia Ragab, Alivia Hairston, Adam Ibrahim, Rhett Gentry, Bryson Hairston and Taylin Nickerson; great-great-grandchildren, Sarah Vernon and Alaina Vernon; sisters, Betty Collie (Jason) Coleen Austin and Virginia Dyer; special friend and neighbor, Mike Purgason, and “menya” nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gentry was predeceased by siblings, Fred Cox, George Cox, Vivian C. Riddle, and Hilda C. Hundley; as well as special neighbor and friend, Jean Evans Purgason.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 17, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lee Eggers officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 until 3 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Gentry wanted everyone to know “you can’t give away kindness” and she wanted to pass on the idea of hard work and education. She taught by example not by lecture.
