Lora (Jennings) Bates

Mrs. Lora Jennings Bates, age 87, of 181 Pineview Rd, Danville, VA, passed away on May 29, 2018 at SOVAH Health- Danville, VA.

Mrs. Bates was born on May 15 1931, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Samuel Jennings and Annie Jennings.

She worked at Dan River Mills for 31 years in the weave room and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Bates is survived by her beloved husband, of thirty four years, Bobby Lee Bates, Sr. of the home; siblings, Mauer Jennings, Shirley Alexander, Leece Alexander, and Henry Jennings; children, Linda Stallings (Sandy), Jack Cook, Jr. (Robin), Bryan Travis (Gwen) Lisa Bates, Bobby Bates, Jr. (Leigh Anne), and Stephen Bates (Brandy); ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; also, four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Bates was predeceased by her siblings, Covie Jennings, Ernest Jennings, Betty Oldham, Virgil Jennings, Elva Linkous, and James Jennings; son, Jerry Cook; and granddaughter, Tina Crumpton.

Graveside services will be conducted onThursday, May 31, 2018 at 11 AM at Schoolfield Cemetery with Pastor William Bates officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 AM. at Swicegood Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence, 181 Pineview Rd., Danville, VA 24541.
