Mrs. Shelby Jean Stone Bartee Palos, age 80, of 57 Ashlawn Drive, Danville, VA, was greeted by her Savior, Jesus Christ and predeceased loved ones, on June 27, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Mrs. Palos was born on November 27, 1938, in Danville, Virginia, to the late Rev. Sanders Stone and Lonie Belle (Jones) Stone. She was a graduate of George Washington High School and attended Danville Community College.
She was employed by Fieldcrest Mills, Inc., and Pluma, Inc., of Eden, NC, and was a member and “mother” of Souls Harbor Holiness Church.
Mrs. Palos is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Eugene Palos of the home; son, Rev. Alton Bartee of Axton, VA; daughter, Cheryl Craig (Ramey) of Germanton, NC; grandchild, Courtney Craig Hamlett, of Charlotte, NC, and one great-grandchild, Bryton Craig Hamlett, also of Charlotte, NC; and brother, John Stone of Providence, NC. Other survivors include
step-daughters, Cindy Wiedmer (Kevin) of Spokane WA and Anna Bristle (James) of Gainesville, VA; also, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Palos was predeceased by an infant son, Sanders Keith Bartee; step-mother, Margaret Knick Stone; brothers, Marvin “Joe” Stone, Sr., and Eppie Stone; and sister, Nancy Stone Wright.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 30, 2019 at 2 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. Alton Bartee, Rev. David Livingston and Rev. Bill Preskitt officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday evening, June 29, 2019 at 6 PM until 8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. At other times the family will be receive friends at the residence of her son, Alton, at 5985 Irisburg Rd., Axton, VA 24054.
