Thelma Gray Lovelace Emerson Adkins, age 88, of 863 Melrose Avenue, Danville, VA, passed away suddenly on Sunday December 23, 2018, at SOVAH-Danville.
Mrs. Adkins was born on June 4, 1930, in Rockingham County, NC, a daughter of the late Willie Joseph Lovelace and Grace Travis Lovelace Burchett. She lived most of her life in Danville and she attended Central Boulevard Church of God. She was married to the late Elmer Emerson, the father of her children, and then was married to Rev. Albert James “AJ” Adkins who also predeceased her.
Mrs. Adkins is survived by her children, Wayne Emerson (Bettie), Vicky Crowder and Joan Shelton (Sammy); sisters, Belwood Hyler, Aquila Mangrum, and Priscilla Nelson; grandchildren, Kevin Emerson (Melissa), Patricia Emerson, Michael Myers (Tammy), Candice Shelton (David), Joseph McDowell, and Brian Crowder; great-grandchildren, Jason Shelton, Kayla Hackworth, Adam Shelton, Kristen Emerson, Elijah Emerson, Joshua Myers, Angel Crowder, Brandon Moore, and Naomi Moore.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by a daughter, Regina McDowell; grandson, Mark Emerson; brother, Floyd Lovelace; and sister, Sandra Fouts
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Swicegood Funeral Home with Reverend John Meadows, Reverend Kevin Emerson and Reverend Butch Robinson officiating. Visitation will be held one prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
