Mrs. Billie Rose Robinson Ellis, 88, of Danville, VA, entered her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, with her daughters by her side.
Mrs. Ellis was born in Gastonia, NC, on February 2, 1934, to the late Albert Robinson and the late Maggie Robinson. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Garland T. Ellis, her precious son William “Mark” Ellis and her only brother, Jack Robinson.
Mrs. Ellis was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved singing in the church choir and being a member of the Young at Heart group. Even as her memory declined greatly, when she heard one of the beautiful old-time hymns being played, she could sing along and not miss a word. Those lovely Christian hymns always remained in her soul. She worked at Pixie Dixie Day Care, Hardee’s and for many years at Super X at Ballou Park. “Mama” may be remembered mostly for her cooking talents. The family loved her many specialties with her famous mac n cheese being at the top of the list.
Mrs. Ellis is survived by her daughters, Deborah Ellis Robertson, Cindy Ellis Crawford (“Marlo” Billy Crawford) and son, Robert D. Ellis. She is also survived by sisters, Gay Hardy, and Marlene Marshall; sister-in-law, Alees Robinson; several special “adopted” Ellis clan members, Pam Durham, Bonnie De Young Smith, and Jeff Riggs. Mrs. Ellis’s grandchildren include Shaun Robertson, Laura Robertson, Neil Robertson, Cristy Ellis, Justin Foster, Calli Ellis, Malia Webster, Meghann Ayre, Jennifer Taylor, Todd Ellis, and Sara Parrish; 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ellis’s family would like to express their thanks to the staff of Piney Forest Health and Rehab for the care provided to our mother for the last 12 years. We offer our most sincere appreciation for the special folks who went above and beyond to show the love and kindness to our “Miss Billie”. We are forever grateful to you.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Swicegood Funeral Service is respectfully serving the Ellis family.
