Debra Jean Phillips went home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2022. Debra was born October 14, 1958, to the late Charles Edward Phillips Sr. and Barbara Jean Massie Phillips. Debra retired from North Carolina Department of Public Safety (Dan River Prison Work Farm) where she worked for 19 years. Debra was also a school bus driver for North Carolina schools (Bartlett Yancey and Dillard) for years. Debra also spent many years as a cheerleading coach for North Elementary where her special talent was put on display as she handmade all the cheerleaders uniforms. Her dearest joy in life was spoiling her family, especially her granddaughters. Debra was known throughout the community for being an animal activist.
She is survived by her daughter Shelley Jean Foxworth (Brian), her granddaughters Faith, Feliz, Jewel, Callie Jean and Heidi Jane. She is also survived by her brothers Charles Phillips Jr. (Barbra Jo), Rodney Phillips (Pam), and her sister Robin Wood (Darron). Nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Formal visitation will be held at Swicegood Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Tuesday, 19 July. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 20 July at 10am at the Phillips Family Cemetery, at 120 Pritchett Drive with Preachers Allen Morris and Kenneth Hammock officiating and Honor Guard service provided by North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
Family will receive friends at the residence of her sister located at 122 Short Road Providence NC.
