Donald Wray Boulware

On Friday, March 3, 2023, Donald Wray Boulware, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 87 at Carlian Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with dementia. 

Donald was born on September 4, 1935 in Danville, VA to Arthur Otis and Gracie (East) Boulware. In 1954, he graduated from George Washington High School and on August 6, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Ann Turpin. Together, they raised two children, Dean and Leslie. On July 8, 1958, Don was inducted into the US Army Corps.

Don loved music & dancing, crossword puzzles, gathering with his buddies at Hardee’s early in the morning, and his poodle Sophie. He passed on his love of pool-playing to his daughter. He was known for his sense of humor, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Don was a faithful member of Stokesland Baptist Church for many years. He was also a member of American Legion Dan River Post 1097 and Poquoson Tribe 124 Improved Order of Redmen.

Don was preceded in death by his father, Otis, his mother, Gracie, and his brother, Giles. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, his two children, Dean and Leslie, his brother, Danny, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 1 o’ clock on Tuesday, March 7th, 2023 at Swicegood-Barker Funeral Home, 564 W. Main Street, Danville, VA with a funeral at 2 o’ clock. Graveside service to follow at Highland Burial Park.
