Dovie D. Cannon, age 75, of Danville, went to her heavenly home on August 2, 2023, after two months of declining health.
Born on May 18, 1948, in Danville, Va., to the late Woodrow and Leatha Hancock, Dovie was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed the simple things in life like a good hot dog, a Diet Pepsi with crushed ice, short trips around town, a good reality show, adding to her collection of owl figurines, and visits from family.
Dovie worked as a dialysis technician in the region for a number of years and was a faithful member of Old Mill Primitive Baptist Church for more than 15 years. She also worked at the former G.C. Murphy and at Danville Memorial Hospital, now Sovah Health.
Dovie is survived by sisters Kaye Dorsett (Vic) and Barbara Gravely (Jesse); brothers Jamie Hancock (Gaye) and Paul Hancock (Shirley); daughter Mary Evans; sons Wesley Moore (Dana), Mark Moore (Allison), and Donnie Moore; and 10 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, stepchildren, and stepgrandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dovie was predeceased by her brother Woodrow “Bubba” Hancock and husband Joe Cannon.
Funeral services will be conducted August 8, 2023, at 12 p.m. with Reverend Wesley Moore officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew.
Swicegood Funeral Service is respectfully serving the family.
