Erman Jones Jr., 74, passed away at UNC Chapel Hill, NC on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 after a courageous 13-year battle with brain cancer. He was born Dec.13, 1946 in Danville, VA to the late Virginia Jones Powell and the late Erman W. Jones Sr. He was predeceased by his brother Gary Jones and special niece Tammy Brookman.
Erman is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Jones. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his 3 daughters Amy Dudley, (Brandon), Pattie Miller, and Bonnie Brassard (Russ). Also, his furry friends Gracie, Layla Ann, Sheldon, and Beau.
He was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was later honored as Deacon Emeritus.
Erman was employed by the City of Danville, Water Gas and Electric Dept. for 49 years until his retirement. He was a lover of bowling, softball, fishing, and golf. He also loved all animals and wildlife.
Mr. Jones will be available for viewing at Swicegood Funeral Home Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 8AM to 5PM. Graveside services will be held at Schoolfield Cemetery in Danville, VA on Sunday, January 17 at 2PM with Pastor Richard Markham officiating.
The family requests that there be no visitors or food donations made to the residence at this time due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Erman’s honor to Calvary Baptist Church 416 Edgewood Dr. Danville VA and Mount Herman Volunteer Fire and Rescue.
