George Curtis Edmunds, age 89, of 122 Skylark Ct. Danville, VA, passed away on Thursday April 21, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family and friends.
George was born on December 19, 1932, to the late Edgar and Mary Edmunds. He grew up in the Java community before marrying his wife, Barbara Wright Edmunds on May 14, 1955. She predeceased him on April 19, 1999.
George was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was employed at Oakwood Mobile Homes until his retirement. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Poquoson Redmen Tribe #124 lodge in Danville. He had a passion for cooking and canning. He loved planting his flowers and within the last six months he picked up drawing as a hobby. George loved to play canasta and rummy card games.
George is survived by his sons, Stephen Keith Edmunds and wife Patty of Danville, and Ronald Curtis Edmunds and wife, Rosie of Reidsville, NC; grandchildren, Stephen Edmunds, Karla Sullivan and husband Mark, Elizabeth Kinzer, and husband Ryan, Ryan Edmunds; great grandchildren, Laila Edmunds, and Jude (Elvis) Sullivan and by his very special friend, Shirley Davis.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Billy
Edmunds, EP Edmunds, Kenneth Edmunds and Johnny Edmunds; sisters, Merle E. Puckett, Ruby E. Pressley and Ruth E. Francis.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Yeaman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will receive friends at the residence. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
