Iris Francis Hankins

Mrs. Iris Francis Hankins, age 97, of Danville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Roman Eagle Health and Rehab.

Mrs. Hankins was born on June 12, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, to the late James H. Francis and Bertha Jones Francis. She lived most of her life in Danville and Java and was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Hankins is survived by her sister, Joan Wray and her niece and caregiver, Faye Emerson. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hankins was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas H. Hankins; son, Garland Vaden; sisters, Ruby McNeil, Betsy Thomas, Irene Gammon; and brothers, Bill Francis, Johnnie Francis and James “Red” Francis.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 2 PM at Highland Burial Park with Reverend Jerry Flannagan officiating.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Faye Emerson, located at 432 Meadows Farm Road, Blairs, Virginia 24527.
