James "Jimmy" Robert Cromwell

James Robert Cromwell was born on June 4, 1942, in Wareham MA to Calvin Jothan Cromwell Sr and Lena Elisabeth Sylvester Cromwell. God called him home to glory on February 24, 2026, in Danville, VA. James passed peacefully in his sleep in his home.

James’s grew up in Wareham MA till he joined the US Army (Infantry) in 1965. He did a tour in Vietnam and gave 23 years of faithful service, with many distinguished awards and accolades earned while he served. After retirement from the Army in 1988, he worked for Cablevision. In 2005 James moved to Virginia to enjoy his full retirement.

James, a true lover of the outdoors, whether walking or just napping in it. He also was a car enthusiast, and a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a true lover of arts whether drawing, music making or listening, and even enjoyed making his own art out of acorns. A lover of a good hot dog, and it is a toss between old country western movies and wrestling.

James leaves behind his wife Patricia Ann Johnson Cromwell of Danville, VA, Sons: Eric James Cromwell of Winston Salem NC, Jamara Earl Cromwell of El Passo, TX, Jamie Robert Cromwell of Greensboro, NC; Daughter, Tamara Marie Cromwell of Danville, VA; grandchildren: Gabrielle, Erica, Dante, Sophia, Milanni, and Priscilla; step-grandchildren: Alberto, Paula, and Patrice; and great grandchildren; and his sister, Lucy Cromwell of New Haven, CT. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.

Along with his parents, James is predeceased by his siblings, Calvin Cromwell Jr, Dorothy M Cromwell, Mckinley Cromwell, Lorenzo F Cromwell, and Gertrude Cromwell

A memorial service will be held for James on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 2pm at Swicegood Funeral Chapel at 564 W. Main Street, Danville, VA 24541.  The family will accept visitors at the chapel beginning at 1pm. To view the service via livestream, please use this link, Swicegood Barker Facebook.
