James Ray "Jimmy" Hicks

Mr. James Ray “Jimmy” Hicks, age 76, of 1381 Riley Farm Rd. Axton, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Hicks was born on December 20, 1944, in Danville, Virginia, to the late Howard Eugene Hicks and Raymell Virginia Williams Hicks. He worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways for many years before retirement and was the former Pastor of Lone Church of God.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his loving wife, Joan Teague Hicks; children, Christy Hicks of Danville, Michael Hicks of Axton, Angela Gauldin (Joel) of Morganton, NC, Lori Collins of Danville, and Kelly Pruitt (Larry) of Providence, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Hicks, Jonathan Hicks, Gabriel Hicks, Isabella Hicks, Brandon Gauldin, Caitlin Gauldin, Cayden Collins, Hunter Pruitt, and Larry “Little Wayne” Pruitt; sisters, Patricia Taylor of Danville, and Alice Greene of Blairs.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hicks was predeceased by his brothers, William “Punk” Hicks and Ronald “Bubba” Hicks.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 29, at 2 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home with Reverend Ricky Bledsoe officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 28, from 6PM to 8PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery.
