Julia Carter Obituary

Mrs. Julia Edna Thornton Carter, age 95, of 3181 Sugartree Church Road, Danville, Virginia, passed on August 31, 2020 at Sovah- Danville.

Mrs. Carter was born on June 24, 1925, in Danville, Virginia, to the late James Thornton II and Ada Cates Thornton. Mrs. Carter lived her life in Danville where she was employed at Dan River Mills until retirement. She was a loving mother who was the backbone of the family, always giving to help her family out in anyway that she could. She enjoyed spending her spare time playing the piano and doing word searches. Mrs. Carter loved and cherished all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her children, Oren Carter, Jr. (Joan), Stephen Carter, and Randy Carter (Shirley); nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a special niece, Debra Thornton Pierce.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Carter was predeceased by her loving husband, Oren Jack Carter, Sr.; children, Garry T. Carter and Ronnie Lee Carter; sister, Ann Winn and Lillian Hardy; brother, Jimmy Thornton III; and grandson, David Carter.

Funeral services will be conducted at Bethlehem Baptist Church on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at 2 P.M. with Reverend J.B. Baldridge officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and at other times the family will be at the residence. Interment will follow in the Carter Family Cemetery.
