Mrs. Kaye Austin, age 77, of Danville, VA, gained her heavenly wings Friday, April 07, 2023 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, after her courageous battle with breast cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 02, 1945, in Danville, VA, to the late James Shelton and Mae Abernathy Shelton.
Before her retirement in January, 2023, Mrs. Austin worked at Schoolfield Elementary School as a teacher’s assistant for 43 ½ years and was a member of Third Avenue Congregational Church known today as Stone Creek Christian Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Amy Yeatts; Shauna Clay and her husband, Mike; and Patty Bolton and her husband, Howard; grandchildren: James Austin (Lisa); Kaleb Farley (Amber); Blake Bolton (Kelsey); Blair B. Westberry (Cole); and Maranda, Kensley, and Mallary Yeatts; and great-grandchildren: Cooper Austin; Summer Farley; two due in the summer of 2023; sister-in-law, Lee Shelton; niece, Angela S. Blalock (Bryan) and nephew, Jim Shelton (Heidi); and special cousins, Carolyn Whitehead and Rita Husmann.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Austin was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth Shelton and husband, William Lindsey Austin.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Compassion Church on Third Avenue formerly Third Avenue Congregational Church. Visitation will be held from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the church. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. At other times, the family will be at each daughter’s residence.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Austin’s childhood best friend, Denise Garrett and nephew, Ralph Jett for their loving care, during Mrs. Austin’s cancer journey.
