Lillian Evelyn Crabb Haislip age 91, of Danville, Virginia died at peace on Sunday, Feb 19th at Riverside Nursing Home in Danville. Evelyn lived her entire life in Danville and was the second of three children of the late Dewey Watson Crabb and Ocie May Keith Crabb.
Evelyn graduated from Brosville High School in 1950 and soon after married Russell Haislip of Danville, with the ceremony conducted at Schoolfield Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member throughout her lifetime. She was the loving mother of four children and a long-time employee of Dan River Mills, where she retired as a weaver. Evelyn found much joy in her family and friends, and a friend once observed that Evelyn knew half the people in Danville and was related to the other half.
Evelyn is survived by her two daughters Barbara Wilkins (Hampton) and Patsy Haislip of Danville, and son Jed Haislip of St Augustine, Florida; 4 grandchildren, Wendy Jones (Brian) in Danville, Melyssa Prindle (Matt), Michael Haislip (Michelle), and Paige Bagby (Adam) in Florida; 8 great-grandchildren, and her dear sister – Edith Crabb Rice of Roanoke, Texas.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Russell Haislip; son, Thomas Haislip, and brother, J.D. Crabb.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 11th at Schoolfield Baptist Church with the Rev. David R. Turbyfill officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, with the service beginning at 2:00 pm, followed by burial at Schoolfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation may be made to the “Annie Armstrong Easter Offering” for North American Missions.
