Mary Lois Prather

Mary Lois Prather, age 85, of Danville VA, passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Sovah Health Danville.

Mrs. Prather was born on June 27, 1938, in Caswell County, NC, a daughter of the late Alexander Daniel Hamlett and Lizzie Mae Winstead Hamlett.

Mrs. Prather lived most of her life in Danville where she was a homemaker for her family. She was married to Clinton Carl Prather, Jr. who preceded her in death. She was a member of Vandola Baptist Church.

Mrs. Prather is survived by her daughter, Lisa K. Ray (Jim); grandchildren, Christopher L.  Austin (Katy), Lori A. Austin and Bruce “BJ” Powell; four great grandchildren; brothers, James “Jim” Hamlett and Berkley “Berk” Hamlett and many loved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Kim Denise Powell; granddaughter, Alex Powell; and siblings, Earline Oakley, Esther Scearce, Elwood Hamlett, Louise Adkins, Charles “Red” Hamlett, Herman Hamlett, Malcolm Hamlett, Alex Hamlett and William Hamlett

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2 PM in Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with Dr. Scott Bortz and Reverend Mike Hearp officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at Swicegood Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75231 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA  22116-7023.
