Michael Chappell Obituary

The precious life of Brother Michael Leon Chappell

Michael Leon Chappell, age 65,  the beloved son of Calvin and Bordine Chappell, whom predeceased him, was born on December 1, 1954 at Winslow Hospital in Danville Va,  (weighing in at 12 lb. and 4 oz.), departed this life on Monday, February 10, 2020.  Michael graduated from George Washington High School where he maintained an “A” average.  He attended Christ Temple Church on Memorial Drive, in Danville, VA where he was baptized in Jesus name by the late John Nathaniel Walters.  He moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he worked at the Scott Family Construction Company.  While living there, he attended Saint James Apostolic Temple Church under Bishop Joseph Scott.  He was always helping people.  He was a great young man.

Thank God for giving us such a great brother who loved his family.  His brother, Calvin Nathaniel Chappell, was his best friend.  Michael called him “June”, and everywhere June went, Michael was there.  He loved working with technology.  Many of his friends called him Chapel Fish and Freight Train.  He then moved back to Danville, VA, and went to Clover Church with his brother.  In 2010, he had to go into a nursing home due to his health decline, and there he remained for 10 years.  He was often visited by Pastor Valentine while he was there.

He met and married Jean McDuffy, and they had two children in their union.  A daughter, named Antria Chappell, and a son, named Michael Leon Chappell.  He leaves to cherish his memory, four grandchildren, all whom reside in Philedelphia, PA.   Also, two sisters, Mrs.  Alease Lewis and Mrs. Ellanese Trapp, both of Columbia, SC;  one brother, Elder Calvin N. Chappell, Jr, of Danville, VA;  brother-in-law, Thurman Trapp, of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law Connie Chappell;  aunt, Dosey McClain;  several nieces and nephews, and a host of family, relatives, saints, and friends.

Funeral services for Michael Chappell will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with  Bishop Joseph Farmer officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Danville.  The family will receive friends at Barker Funeral Home Chapel from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 29, 2020 before the funeral service.  Barker Funeral Home is respectfully serving the Chappell family.  Sign the guest book at www.swicegood-barker.com, www.facebook.com/swicegeedbarker, or www.godanriver.com

Lee told his brother that this was his year, and he wouldn’t have to worry about him anymore.          Amen To Jesus……..
