Mr. Lawery “Pee Wee” Matthews Durham, age 82, of 789 New Walters Mill Rd., Providence, NC, passed away on Wednesday, March 06, 2019 at Caswell House in Yanceyville, NC.
He was born on February 16, 1937, in White Oak Mountain, VA, to the late Dewey Johnson Durham and Laura Strader Durham.
Before his retirement, Mr. Durham worked at Dan River Mills and was of the Baptist faith. He served his country in the United States Army, where he was a cook for a five star General. Mr. Durham was a member of the Dan River Retirees Club, and he was famous for his biscuits, which he made for the Purley UMC and Prospect UMC. His major hobby was farming.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeanette McKercher and her husband, Pete, of Providence, NC; and grandson, Dakota McKercher, who was Mr. Durham’s pride and joy.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Durham was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Shelton Durham; and siblings, Dewey Bernard Durham, Roy Durham, Paul Durham, David Durham, Melvin Durham, Floyd Durham, and Helen Ferris.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p .m. on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Swicegood Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Hammock officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence, 789 New Walters Mill Rd., Providence, NC. Interment will follow in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
