Obituary

Norman Daniel Stowe, 89, died peacefully on May 12, 2023, in Danville, VA. He is survived by his brother Tom Stowe (Linda); nephews Jerry Wilkerson (Doris), Alan Stowe (Lydia), Cliff Stowe (Jeannie), Troy Stowe (Stacey); nieces Kathy Wilkerson, Linda Greer (Greg), RaVonda Davis (Kenny), Lisa Joyce (Johnie), Tammy Bullock (Gerald); 21 great-nephews/nieces and 22 great-great nephews/nieces.

Born on May 17, 1933, to Clifton and May Adams Stowe, Norman was an Army veteran, with deployments in Texas and Germany.  After serving his country, he followed in his father’s footsteps as a carpenter working for Wise Homes alongside his brother, Ryland.  From there, he worked as a foreman for Harry Freeze Construction until retirement.  In his free time, he built a cabin on Hyco Lake with his brother Tom, where he loved spending time on the water with all the cousins for decades.  In later years, Norman spent more than twenty winters in Florida camping alongside two of his brothers, John and Tom, and their wives, enjoying campfires and community socials with many friends.  Among his pastimes were fishing, boating, writing songs, reading (especially the Bible) and attending many family events, including the highlight to his week…the ball games for his great-great nieces and nephew, Rebekah, Katelyn, and Brayson Stowe.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Clyde Edward (in infancy), John, Ryland and Walter Stowe, sister, Barbara Fitzgerald, nephew Daniel Wilkerson, and niece Rhonda Yeaman.

A graveside service will be held on his 90th birthday, Wednesday, May 17 at 11 am at Highland Burial Park, the family will receive friends following the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541
